LOCATION SCOUTING
A key part of this project was shooting on location. Dealing with all the associated issues of access, permissions, travel, etc. whilst gathering the best possible footage and support data so as to create the best possible integration and realistic shots.
The starting point was Google and a search for Brutalist architecture, followed by a 3D map search. Then it became a question of suitability and feasibility.

Deansgate Square is a nice clean modern space that is next to one of the scruffiest sections of canal in Manchester. Is it public or private with public access? Limited choices for camera angles and scene development. Replacing the canal and old brick work is an obvious choice, which again dictates shot choices. No control over space or people moving through the area. Also weather dependent.

Rochdale canal Undercroft
Plan - C
Rochdale Canal Undercroft is right in the center of Manchester next to Piccadilly train station. It runs under the streets. Great looking space but has a bad reputation ( is locked between 10pm & 7am ). Severely limited shot choices yet works for the concept. Lots of paint out and clean up needed to get the space to work. Most probably will need extensive roto work which could take up a lot of time.

Durham Student Union
Durham Student Union is another great example of Brutalism. Travel distance is a factor as is limited access. You can only view it from the street or from across the river or from the bridge. Zero control of the space or public. Surrounded by a lot of nature.

Lasdun Building, Cambridge
Lasdun building, Cambridge is a great looking building it's just too far away. Totally surrounded by buildings of different types. Restricted access. architecture actually limits camera angles, especially with the restricted access. Doesn't lend itself to the style of scene.
